Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The No. 9 ranked Regis University Rangers men's soccer team (10-2-1, 7-2 RMAC) met up with their cross-town rivals, the Metropolitan State University-Denver Roadrunners (8-5-1, 6-3-1 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon. This time, MSU-Denver got the better of Regis taking the victory 3-1.
Both teams picked up exactly where they left off from one week ago as both sides picked up the physicality right out of the gates. The Roadrunners opened the scoring in the 11
th minute as a breakaway opportunity was capitalized on to put RU in a 1-0 hole early on.
It was Regis' turn to respond, and that is exactly what they did three minutes later. Sophomore
Noah Chapleski connected a pass to junior
Sawyer Lincoln who drilled a shot into the upper left corner to knot the game at one goal apiece in the 14
th minute. The goal was Lincoln's first of the season, with Chapleski picking up his third assist of the year on the play.
As both teams fought for the goal that would put them in the lead before halftime, it was MSU-Denver who found the opportunity in the 38
th minute as midfielder Arturo Vega put the home team ahead 2-1. A few minutes later, the referee would issue the first red card of the year to freshman
Porter Milner in the 43
rd minute. The score would remain the same as the teams broke for halftime.
Playing a man down for the rest of the match, RU faced an uphill battle in an attempt to make a comeback from 2-1 down. The struggles would continue for Regis as the referee once again made an impact by issuing a penalty kick in favor of the Roadrunners with just over six minutes played in the second half.
MSU-Denver's Josh Belfrage stepped in and netted his penalty kick to put the Rangers in an even deeper hole 3-1 with 39 minutes to go in the second half. Neither team would give an inch the remainder of the game, surrendering shots, but not allowing any to come close enough to cause any harm.
RU finished the game with seven shots, putting two of them on target, and three corner kicks to their credit. The defense for Regis struggled for a majority of the game, allowing 17 shots (five on goal) and conceding 12 corner kicks. Allowing that many opportunities for the opposition presents a very difficult challenge for the offense to find any kind of rhythm.

th at 6 p.m. in Rapid City, South Dakota before going head to head with the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves (5-8, 3-6 RMAC) on Sunday, October 23 at 2:30 p.m.
