Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team sought revenge of the No. 16 Colorado Mesa Mavericks from a heartbreaking loss just a week prior. The Rangers came up short in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament championship falling to the Mavericks 1-0.
Â
Colorado Mesa went ahead early in the 11
th minute when Roberto Diaz laced a shot on the ground that deflected off a Ranger defender. RU goalkeeper
Chase Webert appeared as though he was going to make the save until the path of the ball changed from the deflection and hit the back of the net.
Â
Regis controlled possession of the ball in search of the equalizer by connecting passes to build into an offensive attack. The Maverick back line always seemed to squander any sort of an RU scoring opportunity. At halftime, CMU remained in the lead.
Â
Play throughout the second half mirrored the first half. Nearing full time, the Rangers made some substitutional and formation changes as they continued to press Colorado Mesa. Regis could not ultimately find the back of the net to come up short.
Â
CMU slightly outshot RU 10-9 while also seeing five corner kicks to the Rangers three.
Sawyer Lincoln and
Sindri Kristinsson led Regis with three shots apiece. Webert finished the game recording all 90 minutes and two saves.
Â
Regis currently ranks fourth in the South Central Region and will await their fate on Monday, November 7 to see if they will make the program's fourth NCAA Division II appearance. Be sure to check back Monday evening to see if the Rangers have qualified along with who and when they will play.
