The Rangers were on a mission from the opening whistle to take control and never let go for the entirety of the match. On their attacking end of the field, RU drew a foul as they were gaining momentum. Freshman
Porter Milner stepped up to take the free kick. Milner played a lay-off ball to senior
Jacob Lever who connected on a left-footed bullet into the back of the net on the far post. The goal gave the home tem a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute.
Both teams battled for the remainder of the period, but just before halftime the Rangers made one more attacking move as they pressured SDSM&T. A bouncing ball reached freshman
Luca Kother who managed to flick the ball over a defender using his head, finding redshirt-freshman
Joe Mansfield who had a wide open net and slotted the ball home for a 2-0 lead in the 42
nd minute.
At the break, each team used the time to regroup and settle down. Midway through the second period, Mansfield struck again with yet another goal to extend RU's lead to a comfortable three goals in the 67
th minute, marking the largest lead for Regis all season.
The unbreakable Ranger defense did what they do best and that was limit the opponent's offensive chances, holding the Hardrockers to only five shots all day. With their fourth shutout of the season, the defense lowered their goals against average to an incredible 0.33 through six games.
RU took 25 shots, put ten on goal, and dominated the corner kick battle 10-2. The dominating performance of Regis was remarkable as they rarely found themselves in any sort of trouble. Sophomore
Chase Webert (5-0-0) picked up his fifth victory of the year, adding another shutout to his resume as well, bringing his total to three shutouts on the season.
The men's soccer team will make their way to Salt Lake City, Utah to face the Westminster College Griffins (1-5, 0-3 RMAC) on Sunday, September 25 at 2:30 p.m.
