Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University men's soccer team (1-0-0) opened up their 2016 season on Sunday afternoon with a brilliant showing, taking down Newman University (0-2-0) by a score of 2-0.
Regis dominated in nearly every aspect of the game, controlling possession, creating offensive opportunities for themselves, and preventing any open looks for the visitors.

Ryan Urwiller scored the opening goal of 2016 in the 42
nd minute as sophomore
Noah Chapleski sent the ball in from a corner kick on the right side. Urwiller found his way to the far post where the ball trickled through and he headed it home for a 1-0 lead before halftime.
The goal sent the Rangers into the break with a great deal of momentum, and a reward after continuing to push the pace and creating opportunities. Redshirt-junior
Eduardo Belmar checked into the game in the 66
th minute and in less than ten minutes he extended the RU lead with a rocket of a shot from 25 yards out, beating the diving goalkeeper.
With a 2-0 lead, Regis sat back and continued to control the ball for the final 15 minutes of the match. The Rangers outshot NU 21-7, putting ten shots on goal to four for the Jets. The corner kick battle was also dominated by RU, 6-1.
Freshman goalkeeper
Chase Webert earned his first victory between the posts making four saves and completing the shutout. Five yellow cards were handed out during the scrum of a game as Regis ultimately prevailed.
The men's soccer team will now travel to California to go head to head with Humboldt State University on September 8 at 4:30 p.m. followed by a meeting with California State University-East Bay two days later, September 10, at 7 p.m. in Hayward, California.
