No. 7 Rangers honor alums, cruise to 13-3 win over UCCS

DENVER, Colo. — On an evening where the Regis University women's lacrosse team celebrated its alumni in attendance, the No. 7 ranked Rangers put on a dominating performance that has become customary during the program's 25-year existence, rolling to a 13-3 victory over the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Regis (12-1 overall, 6-0 RMAC) remained in sole possession of the RMAC standings lead with four regular season games remaining, while UCCS (4-7 overall, 2-4 RMAC) dropped its third straight contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After playing the Mountain Lions to a 4-4 draw in the first quarter of their game in Colorado Springs back on March 24, the Rangers wasted no time taking control of Friday's contest as they blanked UCCS, 4-0, in the opening period.

Regis had four different goal scorers in the first quarter, part of eight different players scorers on the evening, to build its early advantage.

The Rangers would go on to score the first four goals of the second quarter, as well, taking an 8-0 lead at the 8:43 mark on a score by sophomore attacker Lauren Sheets.

UCCS would get on the scoreboard at the 4:23 mark of the quarter, sending the game into the halftime break with an 8-1 Regis lead.

Regis would put the game away with a 3-0 shutout of the Mountain Lions in the third quarter, receiving two goals from senior midfielder Lily Ferguson, and a goal by junior Becky Goetsch to start the running clock in the fourth.

Goetsch added two more goals in the fourth quarter and led all Regis players with a hat trick on Friday; her third hat trick of 2024.

Ferguson was joined by sophomores Shea Murphy and Maggie Schipfer with two goals apiece to round out the four Regis players with multi-goal efforts.

Defensively, junior Terah Skillings paced the Regis back line with three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Myotte notched her 10th win of the spring after stopping six of the nine shots on goal she faced.

GAME NOTES
  • Regis doubled up UCCS on shot attempts, 30-15.
  • The Rangers won the draw battle, 13-6, led by graduate student midfielder Bailey Truex and Ferguson with four draws apiece.
  • UCCS goalkeeper Madison McGriff, the defending RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year, made 12 saves.
  • The Regis defense forced 24 UCCS turnovers on Friday, winning the turnover battle, 24-18.
UP NEXT
Regis will enjoy the rest of the weekend off before it gets ready for a pair of home games next weekend against Westminster University (7 p.m. Friday) and Colorado Mesa University (1 p.m.) Sunday. The Rangers will hold their Senior Day ceremony prior to first draw of Sunday's match against the Mavericks.
