Spring storm does little to slow down No. 7 Rangers in 23-0 shutout of Westminster

DENVER, Colo. — The No. 7 ranked women's lacrosse team powered through a late April blizzard on Friday, racking up 23 goals in just three quarters of work en route to a 23-0 shutout of Westminster University.

Friday's game was called after the third quarter by officials after heavy snowfall, which rolled in around the 5 p.m. first draw, blanketed the playing surface. Regis improved to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in the RMAC with the victory, while the loss dropped Westminster (5-6 overall, 5-3 RMAC) below .500 on the spring.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Behind another dominant effort in the draw circle, the Rangers were able to score early and often on Friday as they produced a running clock by the 3:10 mark of the first quarter.

Regis would lead 11-0 through the game's first 15 minutes, receiving a first-quarter hat trick by sophomore Maggie Schipfer as part of her five-goal, six-point performance.

Schipfer was joined with a game-high five goals by graduate student midfielder Bailey Truex as the duo remained tied for the Rangers' team lead in goals scored this season with 41 apiece.

Fellow Regis sophomore Shea Murphy would notch five points of her own with two goals and a team-high three assists on Friday, while the trio of Megan Bunker, Lauren Sheets and Lily Ferguson all added multi-goal games as well.

Defensively, Ferguson paced all Rangers with three caused turnovers. Bunker and junior defenseman Terah Skillings each tallied two caused turnovers. And junior midfielder Madeline Schallmoser scooped up a game-high four ground balls.

In the cage, Regis senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Myotte earned her second shutout of 2024, stopping both shots on goal she faced.

UP NEXT
The Rangers will close out their 2024 regular season home schedule on Sunday when they host rival Colorado Mesa on Senior Day. First draw is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Regis Turf Fields, with the Senior Day ceremony taking place at approximately 12:20 p.m.
